Welcome to Belcafe.
We are a Swiss/Brit creation and started rehearsing in January
2000. Having moved from Brighton UK to Zurich CH, Sly and Rikki
wanted to form a new band. They finally found Nick through word
of mouth and Peter answered their ad on the net. The band clicked
straight away and it was decided to record a promo CD. Six songs
were recorded on a shoestring budget using the band's digital
harddisc recorder, The result is the CD 'It's a crazy place'.
The Sound
Belcafe draw on musical influences from Rock, Pop, Funk and anything
inspiring. Comparisons to Sheryl Crow, Pretenders, Catatonia and
The Cranberries spring to mind. But most of all Belcafe have emerged
with a unique sound and memorable melodies. Belcafe draw on musical

The People
Sly:
Yodelling was never an option. I spent my childhood stealing my
brother's home made tapes and miming to David Bowie, The Stones,
The Beatles and Ian Dury. One day I deci- ded to leave the hills
for Britain and returned an aspiring singer/songwriter.
Rikki:
Never recovered from 4 years of Art College and being born in
a brewery town. Piano lessons from the local vicar made me realise
electric guitars were definitely Rock'n'Roll. Tom Jones is cool
and fishfingers are hot. I playa Strat.
Nick:
After discovering a passion for hitting things and getting up
late, my life was set. I started my career playing 60's covers
with uncle Tim's band in the UK, which led on to bigger things
-the Swiss Alps. Any excuse to playa cowbell!
Peter:
Born into a musical family, I even enjoyed taking piano lessons
and was soon playing in my dad's big band -untill bought a cheap
bass, joined a punk band and dyed my hair green. The bass is a
deep thing.
