dave sexy

a.k.a. The Famous Sons

WHO IS DAVE SEXY? A character I created, an alter ego, for amusement purposes only.

HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR MUSIC? Odd but mildly commercial.

WHAT ARE YOUR RELEASES SO FAR? Glove, Chronology, Chair, The Best of Dave Sexy volume 43

CAN YOU GIVE US A SHORT HISTORY OF YOUR BAND? I came, I saw, I decided I could do that!

WHAT'S THE SUCCESS STORY SO FAR? The birth of my son, there by proving I am sexy, [on the odd occasion]. Radio play, interviews, the usual.

HAVE YOU PLAYED ANY IMPORTANT GIGS? Not with this band, although I have supposed The Fall, Golden Earring, The Vapours, Ruby Turner, Purple Hearts, and a few others

WHAT DO YOU CONSIDER THE HIGH POINT OF YOUR CAREER? The Golden Earring gig at an ice rink in The Hague, Holland to a crowd of 15,000 people. Radio 1 airplay.

WHAT DO YOU THAT ABOUT THE CURRENT UK MUSIC SCENE AND DO YOU THINK YOU WILL CHANGE IT'S FACE? Not a lot, I feel that I don’t get access to stuff that I might like, where are the bargain bucket heroes! And NO, I’d like to get the music scene out of it’s face. Smash it up and start again. Too much money is involved in 1 or 2 acts. Hate ‘boy’ bands, hate ‘girl’ bands, but are they bands at all?

WHICH BANDS INFLUENCE YOUR SOUND? Everything to a greater or less degree. We could be here all day, the list is endless.

WHATS YOUR FAVE RECORD OF ALL TIME AND WHY DID YOU CHOOSE IT? Could be anything, ‘but . . that was then but this now’ by ABC, purely for fitting in the line ‘have another piece of apple crumble’ in to another wise good song.

WHAT ARE YOUR PLANS FOR THE FUTURE? Get married, have a sex change. . . . ?

STRANGE BUT TRUE? All that glitters is not gold.

Name of outfit: Dave Sexy

Members and their parts to play: Dave Sexy - everything plus outside collaboration as and when needed.

A little bit of history: 1066 and all that, did you want more? Failed pop star, recently making a come back, busy reinventing myself, 15 minutes of fame not enough!

Members taking part in interview: Dave Sexy

1. Has it been a long hard road to fame? Painting all those bricks yellow was a tough job.

2. Who is the main song writer? Me me me me

3. Are there any band squabbles? Not since I sacked the rest of them.

4. What is the ‘scene’ like in your area? Could be better.

5. How long have you been together? Still working on that one, is anyone totally together?

6. Who or what inspired you to become a musician? Don’t consider myself to be a musician, they are boring!

7. Who are your favourite bands of the moment? Red Ash and the Love Commandos, Beatles, Stones, yawn etc., old stuff.

8. What are highs and lows of being in a band? The highs - possibly making it, the lows - discovering that you don’t want to be famous.

9. Do you refer recording in the studio or playing live shows? I like the aspect of recording because it’s there of posterity buts there’s nothing like a good show.

10. Do you have any advice for bands just starting out? Don’t do it! We don’t need the competition.

11. How did you all meet? In a supermarket

12. Sum up your music in three words? Tongue in cheek
