Introducing Firedaze
In January 1999, the UK Roots Rock band Dead
After Dark celebrated its 9th anniversary, by taking
the unusual step of deciding to change both name and musical
direction.
Although they had a following both in Britain
and Scandinavia, they decided theyd simply played
that style of music for long enough, and were ready for
something new.

In January 1999, the UK Roots Rock band Dead After Dark
celebrated its 9th anniversary, by taking the unusual step of deciding
to change both name and musical direction.

Although they had a following both in Britain and Scandinavia,
they decided theyd simply played that style of music for long enough,
and were ready for something new.
And the something new is firedaze : a liberation for song-writers
Steff and String. Theyve taken some of that Roots Rock sound, added
infectious folky tunes on fiddle and electric guitar, layered the vocals,
and then mixed it all with dance rhythms. They call it Roots Dance.

The band started playing live in June 1999, with appearances
at the Leamington Peace Festival and the Cheltenham Festival Fringe. Since
then they have been building their live profile with gigs across Central
England. Both live and in the studio, firedaze is a flexible group of
musicians, with Steff and String always at the core. Steff, main vocalist
and rhythm-guitarist, can also be seen playing keyboards.
String, lead guitarist, backing vocalist, and sometime bass-player,
also plays keys. They are joined both on stage and on the debut 4 track
CD by Emma on fiddle.

Live, they could also be joined by Dunk, on bass, keys and
percussion. Or by d.j Paul Morrell, on decks.

Or by all of them. The resulting sound is ever-changing,
ever-fresh, and guaranteed to make you want to dance. If the fiddle and
guitar dont get you, the rhythm will.
This is not Dance as the world knows it, nor is
it Roots.
This is Roots Dance.
This is Firedaze.
