THE FIRST IS BY DAVE GILL OF VISION MAGAZINE:
"We
love GRASP. We've known them for over a year and we're certain that
they're destined for greater things. Sure, there is many a band
we've featured that we know are going to go places (and many that
have already!), yet GRASP aren't destined to only appeal to small
circles, one day they'll be household names (just remember where
you encountered them first!) But why should they shine so vividly
amongst so many? This is due mainly to the simple purity that defines
so much of their music; of what can be created by the barest of
elements, but also what can be achieved by dropping the pretence
that so many of their peers adhere to. This isn't music that wants
to change the world, but merely make it better, if only for three
minutes.
So why has a full GRASP LP been so long in coming? Whatever the
reasons, GRASP's debut 'Different Ways' will be available soon via
ADDICTION RECORDS. For the moment let us consider recent tracks
such as 'WALKING THROUGH MY HEAD'. Those who have written GRASP
off as heirs to JOHNNY MARR's jingly jangly chords will be in for
a shock as the track is a full tilt rocker that would have DEEP
PURPLE running for cover! With MATTHEW POTTER and ANDY MARSHALL
taking over bass and drum duties respectively, GARY VERY is freed
from being the sole instrumentalist of the band, and as such his
guitars are leaping to the fore.
Fortunately, GRASP haven't forgotten where they came from and 'ANOTHER
MAN' sees the folk roots of old making a return visit. 'THERE'S
A TIME' is of a decidedly wide-eyed lament on the woes of our time,
with a whispering caress courtesy of KATRINA's penny whistle. With
such lyrics as "I DON'T WANT TO FIGHT, I DON'T WANT TO HURT",
it's open sentiments are a little at odds with much of the cynicism
that lurks around these pessimistic days. Yet when a song is as
sincere as this and sung so beautifully by KATRINA RAINBOW, even
you could believe the world would listen. And soon, very soon the
world (and his brother) will be listening to GRASP."

COLIN SCOTT FROM CREAM OF THE CROP REVIEWS 'DIFFERENT WAYS':
"Finally
hits the streets! This should have been released so much earlier,
but it's always so hard to get things done. It's finally out, and
it's a pure indie release; colour copied cover on the good old CDR.
I think it's a great time for underground music right now. It's
great that any band can have their own foot in the door and bring
out music on quality sound-ships, i.e. CD. Anyway, back to GRASP.
I think they're a quality outfit, and very special. It seems everyone
wants to feature their music, so ask yourself why? Yep, they're
good. Perhaps it's KATRINA RAINBOW's vocals that mix with the songs
and wind and whirl them, infusing into a 'new millennium rock indie
psych machine'? A lot of the eleven tracks here have been around
on various demo's the band have put out. 'HAVELOCK ROAD' gives such
a lift with KATRINA's lyrics. It's all about enjoying life to the
full; we should all be here to help each other, not fight against
each other. It's a great sentiment, and it's a great song. All the
songs that GRASP do are filled with a social theme; it gives me
a 'modern hippied out' feel. It's just the whole way the band are,
from music to lyric; it's a peaceful and beautiful package. I think
'YOUNG, FOOLISH AND LONELY' is a number most will feel in their
lives; that's if you are turned on in the head. I used to relate
GRASP to so many other bands, but I'm not ever going to do that
again. They are GRASP. They've made their sound a whole. Not many
get that privilege!"

ONE LATE REVIEW HAS JUST COME IN FROM KIM HARTEN OF AQUAMARINE.
HERE'S WHAT SHE HAD TO SAY ABOUT GRASP'S FIFTH E.P. 'MY PSYCHIC
SIDE-KICK':
AQUAMARINE.
"'THERE'S A TIME' is a rather poppy song, which also has folky
elements and idealistic/sentimental lyrics. This is the song that's
most like their previous output. The other tracks show GRASP move
away from their earlier pop sound. 'WALKING THROUGH MY HEAD' is
a new wave thing with rock guitar solos, and 'ANOTHER MAN' is fairly
laid-back rock with quite an early '70's feel. Much gutsier than
anything I've ever heard from GRASP before. I'm impressed with these
songs."
