Description: Industrial Techno-Guitar Pioneers

INHALER … have landed

Here is a very loud aggressive 3 piece band from the South coast of England.   They compliment their bass, drums and guitar/ vocals line-up with an excessive use of samples and rave orientated drum loops.  They sound like a cross between Big Black, Korn, early Nirvana, Therapy?’s ‘Pleasure Death’ LP days and The Chemical Brothers.  They are the rock scene’s latest hot property.

James Barnard formed Inhaler together with Dave Patrick, the band’s first drummer, a mere three years ago, taking inspiration from the obscure time changes and hefty guitar parts of the Melvins plus up-to-the-minute trance and dance music. He set out to mesh metal with the latest sampled sounds in a new way, eventually leaning more towards the dance side of things than the current industrial scene.

Their hard-core sound is often heavily contrasted with quiet almost ambient tracks like the fourteen and a half minute ‘Hollow Light’ giving them a refreshing new style. "If it wasn’t blatantly obvious from the cover artwork that there was only one band featured on this CD, from the music held within, you could easily be fooled into thinking that there are at least two." James Sherry (Metal Hammer)

Their first demo cassette won them the favour of their record company Seriously Groovy Music. It begins with a recorded message from the Parents Music Resource Centre, a barmy right wing US pressure group. These people sit around playing rock records backwards, looking for ‘hidden’ satanic messages. Queen’s ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ backwards is ‘I smoke marijuana’... apparently.

NO WINGS FINS OR FUSELAGE Electric EP (Seriously Groovy) (4 points)

Remember that strange story from that man who thought he was a flying saucer? OK, it's a constant factor in our society that the more genius someone is the more nuts he is as well...but it's not my job to judge this, I'm here to listen to the music...Just like their debut album (which is still available). No Wings Fins or Fuselage still sound very Pixies-like, not at least because of the very Frank Black-voice!!! But anyone who thinks this is a daft Pixies-copy is quite wrong cos it's an unique blend from noisy indierock with lots of bizarre space-sounds!!! This should be the real soundtrack of "X-Files" and why it isn't is just a case for Mulder & Scully!!! Also out on the same label are Inhaler who sounds like a perfect combination from Gary Numan and Kraftwerk...it wouldn't be that much of a surprise if they are UFO's as well!
