A few words about each band
Bloke: Starstuck Bloke will soon be in your
face with strong melodic songs and energetic live performances.
This Surrey three piece have a powerful guitar based sound and will
not stop short of success.
Moth Conspiracy:
Possess You We meet at school and luckily went to university together.
We are inspired by : The Who, Charles Aznavour, Supergrass, Velvet
Underground, Sly Stone, Radiohead, Can, Sonic Youth, mid-period
Miles Davis & Airto (Moreira).
Magikuli: Suzie's Dream A virtual band (thanks
to "Blaze"), Magikuli's "Suzie's Dream" was
conceived by Keyboard player Bob Horton, who's style reflects that
of the late sixties, energized with influences from the mid nineties.
Brit Pop? Virtually!!!
The Hamptons: Na
Na Na Na Na & Don't Tango On My Heart Three piece London band
just released second album "Ba Ba Ba Ba Ba " on their
own label - basically catchy pop/rock with a wry twist and very
British. The next Album ("Summer Only Happens In The Summer")
will be more surf down the Mersey.
Jelly Rumble: Angel
Jelly Rumble is an ambitious songwriting partnership intent on producing
catchy pop/rock which appeals to a wide audience. [They became Honeygun]
Red Ash & The Love Commandos:
All She Says & Who Me? This is the return of dramatic passion
as the most exciting fashion. Red Ash - the closest thing to heaven
- 97.
The Purple Doves: You Said Our claim to fame
is being on a CD with Slade & the Mission. (Slade being the
best band of the 70's)
Glass Onion: Sometimes It's There With a total
dedication to music, extra-ordinary talent & a highly accomplished
singer songwriter, Glass Onion should be a household name in the
near future. Gelfs: My Sweet Love A duo songwriting & performing
team now with a backing band. The music we write is very wide ranging
but we specialize in blues/rock.
Oliver Eills: Nouveau Riche & Good Bloke
An Individual and versatile singer, songwriter and performer with
a variety of styles, a hat fetish and a magnetic stage presence.
Bum: Blind As A mole A fine blend of rock, rap, blues, jazz and
Guinness induced psychosis from the backside of Scotland.
Isy Noho: Jolly Holiday Formed in 1995, band
members have friends since school. recorded 'Jolly Holiday to enter
a radio competition which we won. Described as radio scum by Melody
maker.
Flashpoint: Put Me To Bed A life time to dream,
8 hours recording and mixing, and that's it. Hope not !
Entropy: Swing Your Pants You'll see this band
on Reading Festivals main stage one day. They're taken all their
influences and mutated them into thier own personal butt-kicking
hybrid. Nuff Respect.
Fireside Aliens: All In The Mind "Fireside
Aliens play loud, aggressive original music that needs to be heard
before you judge them. Currently Edinburgh's best keep secret!"
Curious Oyster:
Mink Taken from the album 'Horse Feathers', out soon on 25 Records!
The music of Curious Oyster combines industrial inspired rhythm
with multi-layered guitar effects & washes of keyboard textures
over which Joanne's surreal, dream inspired vocals float breathlessly.
Otherworld: Theme
From Otherworld Manchester's finest,smoother than Bodington's Gold,more
kicking than United, that's Otherworld.
Radium 88: Don't
Listen To The White Noise Punky ambient techno sci-fi Disney rap
group. Your Basic 21st century rock 'n' roll, in fact.
Ironic?: No Longer, Am I, The Exploding Head.
Bang! & This Isn't How They Said It Would Be, When We Were Young
The product of a diseased mind, a mid-twenties breakdown and drug
induced psychosis. Ironic? is the result of the messed up, hyperactive,
generation X technology dream turned sour. Drowning in a turmoil
of its own fears and the realisation that it's not what we were
promised.
Oh, gosh
(The
story)
The time come and you can 'Put me to bed' and I will 'possess
you' in Suzie's Dream'. Is that 'All She Says', 'Don't listen To
The White Noise', well it's better than 'Na na na na na' at least
this time she isn't 'Starstuck'.
'Sometimes it's there' just like a 'Theme from Otherworld'
but a quick 'Tango on my heart' from 'My sweet love' changed all
that.
'You Said', it's 'All in the mind' maybe we should just
'Swing Your Pants' and have a 'Jolly Holiday'.
He may not be an 'Angel' but he's a 'Good Bloke' even if
he is a bit 'Nouveau Riche'. 'Who me?' came the reply. 'Blind as
a mole' that one, but of could of even been a 'Mink'.

Some reviews.
The Original Sin
Last week Mark sent me the new 25- compilation `OH
GOSH` asking me if I could review the CD. Normally I try to avoid
CD reviews in my zine but for 25 records I'm glad to make an exception!
If you buy the CD you are introduced to 20 new excellent
bands! I'm not sure about the price but I think its about £5. Those
who read Original Sin number 1 already know everything about Red
Ash. `OH GOSH` features 2 songs from them; they are excellent!
What else there is to discover? Too much to tell,
but some bands really blew away my mind! I really couldn't believe
my ears when I listened to the Curious Oyster-track cos this band
sounds very similar to Cocteau Twins. As on their previous compilation
CD `OUCH` there's also space for brilliant indiebands such as Bloke,
Moth Conspiracy, Glass Onion...You can also hear some dancestuff.
There's even space for experimental stuff a la Spacemen 3. There's
a lot to discover on 25 records!!!
Street Sounds Newsletter
OH GOSH! INDIE COMPILATION - When I got this through the post I
thought this was going to be shit as most indie bands are but on
most part I wasn't disappointed as bands like Bloke, The Purple
Doves and The Hamptons stood their ground proudly. 19 bands/23 tracks
here and you can't really go wrong. Only complaint is that the packaging
was a bit bland. How about more band info, photo's, lyrics etc?!!
Street Sounds Newsletter,121 Bembridge, Brookside, Telford,Shropshire
TF3 1NE, ENGLAND
This sampler presents a wide spectrum of new indie music, from
'jingle jangle' guitar sound to mellow ballads to experiments to
soulful rock to hard rock . . . cool release !!Highlights are Moth
Conspiracy, Otherworld, Fireside Aliens, Curious Oyster and The
Hamptons.
Old stuff taken from old newsletters
Radium 88 have been working with Steve Levine, in his studio,
on new demo and have be receiving record company interest as a result.
Tim has told me that he's in tune with what they want to be and
has made their sound 10 times bigger. They will also be playing
at the Radio One Roadshow in Manchester on Saturday 21st of May.
So go along and support your fellow bands.
Radio Loisirs
First radio play for 'oh, gosh'! Marc Kokocinzki from Radio Loisirs
in France has been playing 'Jolly Holiday' by Isy Noho, 'Starkstuck'
by Bloke and 'All she says' by Red Ash and the Love Commandos. The
rest of the play list of the radio show include Blur, Nick Drake,
Cast and Placebo.
Radio Marabu
Lord Litter has sent me his recent April and May play lists from
his radio show (German version) in Germany. He has been playing
four tracks from 'Oh gosh' on his show in Germany, Lord Litter promises
to push the CD to the maximum. The playlist list includes The Hamptons
'Na na na na na', Oliver Eills 'Noveau Riche', and Jelly Rumble
'Angel'. His favourite song from the album is Red Ash and the Love
Commandos 'Who me?', which just by chance was written a very close
personal friend.
Bum 'Blind as a mole' and Bloke 'Starstuck' are to be featured
in the June playlist in the English version. Lord Litter does two
shows , one in English and one in German, they feature different
playlists and they are broadcast all over Europe, except for guess
where!
April saw The Conspiracy make number 5 on the playlist, (they were
on Little White Knickers) with their song 'When will it take you'.
They are now signed to Pink Lemon Records in Germany. Whilst in
May they had another track, 'The grand illusion' played on the show.
RIP
Francois Pasqualino has been playing various tracks from 'oh gosh'
on his show 'Le hit du snob' on La Radio Inde-Pendant (RIP) in France.
The tracks played so far are Bum 'blind as a mole', Glass Onion
'Sometimes its there' and Red Ash and the Love Commandos 'All she
says'.
