I'd
like to say that, being a Welsh band and, therefore, by definition,
Celtic, that our music transcends into different dimensions of consciousness
ie. Into the Celtic Nirvana which is "Otherworld". This,
however, would be a complete lie! We were looking for a name which
would bestow an identity on the style of music we write when a good
friend of mine, bought me a book about the art of the Celtic dragon.....and
there it was! It seemed to have a nice ring to it.
What are the individual
members names and what do they play?
Marco James Keyboards,
guitars, harmonicas, vocals
Paul Davies Guitars,
vocals
Dave Reed Vocals
Greg Haver Drums
John Pulman Bass
How did you meet? Myself
(Marco) and Dave worked together, Paul came from the local Free-ads,
Greg took over at the studio we used to rehearse in and John, initially
was a session man.
How long have you been
together? About three years with different line ups.
Where is the band based?
South Wales
Who or what inspired
you to become a musician? My mother and various music teachers since
I was able to walk have to take the blame for that one. My mother
certainly has had her regrets down the years! Although for someone
who refers to Jimi Hendrix' music as "nice" at the age
of 74, I think she must be hip to the vibe!!!
What bands are you
listening to at the moment? At this moment, Eric Clapton but I dare
say that Francis Dunnery may have a spin shortly.
What are some of your
favourite songs?
Starship Trooper -
Yes
Kashmir - Led Zeppelin
Highway to Hell - AC\DC
Anything by Pink Floyd
Anything by any of
the old Rock Dinosaurs really.
Do you prefer to play
in the studio or live gigs? I am ecstatic in the studio and only
very happy playing live.
Describe your sound.
AOR with definite influences by all the aforementioned although
Paul may disagree. That, however is tough because it's my computer
that is sending this e-mail.
Where can people come
and see you play? South Wales, my house, Paul's house.
What do you like about
being a part of 25 Records? It gives us a chance to get our music
heard. I also feel comfortable dealing with people who seem to be
on the same wavelength and are enthusiastic about what they do.
Do you know any of
the other bands on the label, and which one's are your favourite
to listen to? No and none, unfortunately!
What are most of your
songs about? (love, partying, political, beer, etc.) Mainly
love songs or sex although some are more political or humanist.
My favourite lyrics to one of our songs (There will Come a Day)
charts the demise of the Native Americans (note no reference to
red Indians - how PC am I?!) quite cool for an Italian Welshman
I thought (You need to be one to appreciate the relevance).
Give us an interesting
story that happened either at a gig, or while writing or recording
a song. OK. We were shooting a video for HTVs Electric Chair a year
or so back in which we used the Cardiff Harley owners Club. It was
quite a sight seeing these latter day desperadoes roaring down the
main streets of the Welsh capital. Whether it was the deafening
roar, smell of 4 star or the throb of warm metal between your legs,
I don't know but it kinda made us all feel very safe.......and moist.....OOPS,
what a give away!
Do you play any weird
or unusual instruments? If you call the mandolin, violin and Indian
cane flute strange then yes. If you don't....then not
Have you been in other
bands? Yes - namely, Orion, Smokestack, Candyman, Ray Jones ai Fand
(Welsh language), Band of Hope and Big Ben & the Benefits who,
incidentally, I still play for.
Do you have any interesting
stories involving the police or breaking the law? (That we can post
on the site) After a gig with Smokestack, somewhere in the North
of England, coming back in the van, we ran out of petrol. Our bass
player who had the best sucking action for the job was volunteered
to syphon the tank of an innocent bystanding Austin Allegro and
duly had his collar felt by the boys in blue!... It was cold in
the van that night!
Does anyone in the
band have any strange or unusual habits or superstitions? Me....I've
inherited loads from my mum. Magpies, opening umbrellas indoors,
owls etc. So now, when I walk under a ladder or trip over a black
cat. I must immediately find a single magpie and impale it on the
sharp end of my brolly whist throwing salt over my left shoulder
with my right foot. I find that this usually does the trick of neutralising
any bad Karma that I might have otherwise suffered.
This is Hardcore!!!!!!
Here are a few questions
we got out of Melody Maker from a Jarvis Cocker [Pulp] interview.
When did you lose your
virginity? Well,well,well.......what a question to ask a good Catholic
boy!!.........When I was 19, at a party but being a good Catholic
boy, I didn't use a condom.
Would you be willing
to give up sex for five years if you could have graphic erotic dreams
any time you wished? Not since my graphic, erotic dreams became
reality.
How would you react
if you found out your lover had a lover of the opposite sex before
you knew each other? Before we knew each other, I wouldn't care
but afterwards, with great interest!
Feel free to contact the band at 25 Records
