A few reviews.
The Original Sin
The Original Sin also wants to feature labels who
are fighting to get their bands as popular as can be. I don't mention
EMI or any other fucking major company, but small labels who are
doing the things cos they believe in it and not because they hope
they will have a future number 1 so they have their money back as
soon as possible. Independent labels mostly have to struggle with
non-interest from the official press and mind you, darlings, we
are talking about real independents and no labels who are called
`indie` but who are financed by EMI. After hearing the latest compilation
on 25 Records, the magnificent `OUCH` which features 17 bands, I
thought:`WOW! These guys have it.` 25 Records for President! Listening
to the OUCH-compilation is a real adventure cos each band have their
own style! From heavenly dreampop (see Warp), Romo influenced indie
bands (see Eternal Energy),Lament), baggypop in true roses style
(Playing Fields), American influenced Lemonheads; Nirvana- like
bands Cord, Precious, Habit and Zebedee) till good old traditional
punk (Helter Skelter and Jayne Doe)...on 25 you've got it all!
I agree it all may sound a bit complex but to honour
all those bands it would take a whole fanzine!!!
In forthcoming issues from the Original Sin we will
go a bit deeper in some bands... turn over these page: There's your
first!
Gajoob
This is a 22 song compilation that features 18 unsigned bands. The
songs are mostly rock but a few gear towards punk or pop. Although the only song that really stands out is Those Mighty Minnows' song "Stuck in a hole," all the songs are decent. The recording is all professionally done so it sounds good. Some songs to check out are Picnic's "Teenage Dream," The Real McCoy's "Can't you see" and The playing fields' "Seriously Groovy." There's also a bonus track of a phone ringing. I'd defiantly consider checking this one out.

OUCH
At first I thought this was some type of benefit album
- Ouch! stop hurting us, and send us some money! The opening track
is by "northern pop stars" Velma, (fans of Kelly from
Emmerdale by any chance?) Two of the bands who dare to be a bit
different are Lament and The Machine Stops, who use percussion and
"diverse instruments", possibly from the 1760's(!) I also
liked the song 'someone else's number' by 1 up 1 down which was
emotive without being emotional, the jangling Warp, and the kwirky
vocals of Red Ash and the Love Commandos.

My Way - Fanzine
Matthias Lang has reviewed 'ouch' for the German Fanzine My Way,
as the review is in German were not totally sure what the review
says. Although it would appear that Warp, Lament, Red Ash and the
Love Commandos and The Machine Stops would appear to the his favourite
bands.
For All The Right Reasons Records.
At a chance meeting with A&R Manager from FATRR, and a friend
from Sony Records, at a local night club (he was checking out another
band) Mark gave them both a copy of the 'Ouch' CD. First thing next
morning he was on the phone to us excitedly asking about Velma,
Warp & Cord. We also at this time sent him a copy of the '....Off'
CD on which he found and was impressed by 'Hook'.
Radio Marabu
Starting off this issue of the newsletter we have news that once
again Lord Litter at Radio Marabu have been playing our CD's in
Germany. This time it's 'Ouch' CD . Red Ash and the Love Commandos
"British unique pop rock", have hit the number four spot,
followed by, Eternal Energy "blue eyed soul pop" and 1
Up 1 Down "singer songwriter UK version" making their
first appearances in the Radio Marabu Charts. Up to now, Red Ash
and the Love Commandos have been our only band played on Radio Marabu.

Here be monsters
'Ouch' Nice to see someone releasing fledgling bands first efforts
on a cheap taster CD . . . just a shame they're SO sad, week amateurish
and Goddamm fucking awful! I forgot just how bad yer 1st demo can
sound and it's the vocals everytime that let these Muppets down!
Not one of these seventeen bands has a chance in hell of anything!
Embarrassing shite.
