Why are you called Popshop?
No, there is no genially well thought-out reason or anything
that give cause for an explanation of the name Popshop. It is lovely
to pronounce and catch as easily as a chewing-gum, just as our music
immediately sticks to your listener ear. We let the word in it's
common context free, to them who enjoy analysis.
Patrik is of curious nature. He listens to Slayer, likes complicated
guitar-solos and should not have anything at all to do with this
type of music. Although, Popshop were born in Patrik's brain and
we automatically had a breeze of fathers figure.
Micael handle his status as a drummer extraordinary well. He is
a large beer consumer and don't bother anything else but music,
to be far-fetched, but he does not try to shuffle his cordiality
away. Also, his behind is the most looked for.
Jonas appear as the bass player in Popshop. From this body, harmony
evaporates. Beside that, he belongs to the kind of people who save
their strengths for situations in which they are really needed and
then he surprises all of us with his ideas.
Johan, guitar, quickly took my role as the buffoon of the band.
He is full of ideas that sparkle and whirl as he changes his state
of mind from calm to lively happy and backwards. We all appreciate
his prime mover.
My name is Cornelia also known as the little redhead. The band has
given me free hands concerning text and melody writing, same goes
for the satisfaction to do the vocals. Maybe the necessary part
of naivety in Popshop.
It might seem impossible for a band like Popshop to grow in Kalmar.
The mould is more suited for punk and metal bands and the climate
is as hostile as a nuclear winter due to the lack of gigs. Despite
this Michael and Patrik decided to go for a try during the month
of December-97. They gathered the rest of the members and started
to play pop and this project turned out to be very successful. The
first demo was recorded in February-98 and the song materials is
constantly growing, some recorded and some to be.

We live on the southeast coast of Sweden in a town called Kalmar,
just beside the big swedish island Öland.
Who or what inspired
you to become a musician? The love for being on a stage and
the joy of creating music and it's a hell lot easier to "pick
up" babes if you're a pop star...
What bands are you
listening to at the moment? Ash, Radiohead, Kent, Wannadies,
Sugar Ray, Queensr˙che, Olivia tremor control.
What are some of your
favourite songs?
Coronet of paper
Of venus sent
Eyes define
Do you prefer to play
in the studio or live gigs? We prefer both, we have so much
fun when we're together no matter what we do!

A lot of guitars and a lot of melody with soft vocals. We love
those unexpected breaks in songs.

What are most of your
songs about? Maria writes single sentences and stories about
real life and her fantasy world. The important thing is what feelings
the word pull through and how the pronunciation is a part of the
music.
Give us an interesting
story that happened either at a gig, or while writing or recording
a song. We had this one local gig that really was something
of the things that you don't expect to happen every day.. At first
the trailer we had booked was already hired by someone else, so
we had to borrow a pickup truck instead, which got us delayed for
two hours. Half way there the fuel injection got half broke so it
started to smell gasoline inside the pickup truck even though we
had all the windows down. This smell gave some strange effects to
our heads and we were all laughing hysterically...... At last we
were supposed to enter the stage when the fire alarm went of and
everyone had to evacuate the whole building and in went firemen
with their smoke helmets. After about an hour outside in the cold,
the firemen came out and the god damn fire alarm that was ringing
all the time silenced. It was all a false alarm due to a new smoke
detector placed in the kitchen... Finally we got on stage and considering
the circumstances we actually made a good gig!
Do you play any weird
or unusual instruments? Patrik used to play the clarinet in
school but some classmates kicked him so bad that he quit.
Have you been in other
bands? We all played in other bands before. Nothing interesting.
Do you have any interesting
stories involving the police or breaking the law? ( That we
can post on the site) Not any serious problems all though we could
mention escaping from a car chase with the police and some of us
has spent a night in the local custody due to drinking offense..
Does anyone in the
band have any strange or unusual habits or superstitions? Not
yet..
