Download a 30 second edit of one of my best songs. It's in mono so it should take no more than a minute.

Take me to the Coming Out page.

Coming Out

Think of all those people with great character and stubbornness that just plug into their own ideas, accept others influences, but mainly just go it on their own.

You cannot really see it here but this picture is actually about 3 foot by 2 foot, and is made up of around 30 pictures. it took over two hours of sitting really still whilst the photographer, got his shit together. We dropped them off at a one hour lab as this wasto be the test shot. After walking around in the cold for an hour we returned to the shop only to be told that soory you put your order in to late. Could you come back tomorrow? Arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. They're eclectric, but charming, they're annoying and beautiful.

They're also the people who regardless of what you might like to do, will also mean more to you than anyone else.

They mean so much purely because they make you think, and they MAKE you change your opinion of them time over. That's Red Ash that is.

Red Ash - The Original Sin?

Red Ash are fully named RED ASH AND THE LOVE COMMANDOS, a name they got from the line `I`m a love commando and this is a raid!` by Zodiac Mindwarp. They describe their music as a `kind of dancy-funky-indie guitar groove influence`. I have an other word for it.:MAGIC. Over here they may not be a well-known band but they have achieved to sell around 20.000 copies from their first two albums in Japan.

Yup, we already know Japan is a strange country if it comes to music. Not only are shampoo the biggest band over there but they also have devoted fans to bands who are doing nothing over here... Well perhaps things will change for Red Ash cos their new CD `Coming Out` is out on 25 Records! Believe it or not, but it`s their first full CD which is available over here cos the two others (`One Woman` and `Empty Houses`) only got a Japanese release! About the line-up from the band Red Ash are rather vague.

Their press-kit says:` There is no current permanent line-up from Red Ash and the Love Commandos, although the latest line came in to being around Easter 91, playing their first gig to a packed Mr. Smiths piano bar in Bournemouth. Being forced of spending months in dirty rehearsal rooms, musicians were replaced with a cheap sequencer and using a series of pretty girls to mime parts. The Love Commandos hit the streets as a five, six, seven or once an eleven piece.

Their history began in 91 and they were spotted by the A&R-men from Rotate records during a gig at the academy in Boscombe. But from what I made up they weren't so pleased with everything.

But now they are on 25 Records and in my small opinion I think this is a label which does a lot for their bands.

They`re promoted in different fanzines (a natural thing `THE ORIGINAL SIN` has to play its part either!) and you can see their heart is dedicated to the music. Red Ash will soon be huge!

Let`s end with their own words:`Some bands play for money, some play for excitement. Some because they want to be famous, some because it`s the only way they can deal with their inner demons but Red Ash play for sex, like it was an EEC stock pile. And today it could be your handout or surprise!`. Make this band big! We promise to keep you informed.

So what's that lazy Red Ash up to?

Another Red Ash Party
by Marky Mark

There you are, lounging around the bus stop wearing nothing but a latex cheerleader's outfit in your high school colours when suddenly the phone rings. Surprised, you take your clothes off, then open the door and are happy to see four Jehovah's Witnesses grinning. As the cheesy music begins you can't help yourself, so you take a bite of pizza, amused by the size of the zucchini that confronts you. Before you know it a car pulls up and all the Playboy centrefolds from the last ten years are climbing out with arms full of beer. Being the gracious host, you eat all of them, much to their delight.

The air is thick with the smell of incense as 10 people are now writhing in a pile on the hood of the car fucking. You’re completely absorbed in it, never having had so many people fucking at once.

Suddenly you look up and see the ghostly image of Linda Lovelace that appears on a condom staring at you and you grin foolishly. You’re caught! They laugh uproariously, then join in and you turn them over to the Jehovah's Witnesses as the cheesy music fades out.

- THE END -
a song 'who me?'
another song 'all she says'
more songs 'neurotic'
still more songs 'say what!'

mark and dave at DISCOunt world WIDTH=Interview by Angi Kuzma, summer 1998

What's the name of the band, and how did you come up with the name? The band got their name "the Love Commandos" from the line "I'm a Love Commando and this is a raid" by Zodiac Mindwarp.

What are the individual member's names and what do they play? The bands just a concept, everyone gets a call as when needed.

How did you meet? Mainly pure bad luck, I meet the new backing singers at youth club, Jane down the pub, apart from meeting Dave Sexy, which was in a supermarket.

How long have you been together? About 3 feet.

Where is the band based? The basement at 25 Records look around the site and you'll find the house!

Who or what inspired you to become a musician? Sorry no musician's in this band, musicians are too boring.

What bands are you listening to at the moment? Talk radio, Maddy, Kylie, Maria McKee, Theaudience.

What are some of your favourite songs? Today? If kind of into theaudience, it will be different next week.

Do you prefer to play in the studio or live gigs? I like to play up anywhere.

Describe your sound. A sex noise, or was that a sex nose.

Where can people come and see you play? I'm not allowed out the house these days.

What do you like about being a part of 25 Records? They are very sexy people! I've slept with some of them [ha ha]

Do you know any of the other bands on the label, and which one's are your favourite to listen to? Yeah, I know a few of them; some of them have played on my tracks and visa versa. My favourite? Spotless

What are most of your songs about? (Love, partying, political, beer, etc.) Girls, girls, and more girls!

Give us an interesting story that happened either at a gig, or while writing or recording a song. Once whilst taking a break from a long mixing session, I said I was going out to buy some 'catfood', someone else asked for some 'coke'. We had a visitor in the studio, who knew little of the rock'n'roll lifestyle other than what he'd read in the press. He presumed that 'catfood' was a code word of some illegal substance, and when some one else asked for coke, well that just confirmed it. "Chris can I get you anything I asked?" "No I'm fine" came a rather shaky reply, [Chris was looking quite worried at this point, and we all thought what's his problem].

You should have seen the look on his face when I returned with a tin of Whisker's Tuna Catfood and a can of Coke-a-cola!

Do you play any weird or unusual instruments? Nothing more than a computer and a sampler.

Have you been in other bands? None that I'd admit to!

Do you have any interesting stories involving the police or breaking the law? (That we can post on the site). Not with out dropping my self in it!

Does anyone in the band have any strange or unusual habits or superstitions? See above

Interview by Heather Steeley

Members taking part in interview: Captain Ash

How did you all meet? The band is now more of a collective and I can’t remember how I meet everyone, it’s been over a long time.

How long have you been together? Some of them have worked with me for years, but I’m planning to do some songs with some new people real soon.

RED ASH

Members and their parts to play: Captain Ash plus an assortment of mates, and yes Mark from 25 Records was responsible for noises and samples on ’15 minutes’ as well as engineering on the USN, Phil Lewis and Red Vision Shores tracks.

Members taking part in interview: Captain Ash

Has it been a long hard road to fame? It’s a very long road and your aims get moved with very tiny success.

Who is the main song writer? Captain Ash

Are there any band squabbles? No

What is the ‘scene’ like in your area? As I don’t play live very often, other musicians think that I’m not part of the ‘scene’, lots of gigs if you want them, just don’t expect to get paid!

Who or what inspired you to become a musician? Sex drugs rock’n’roll, just the usual things!

Who are your favourite bands of the moment? Kylie’s last album sounded cool, Lisa Germano, Patti Smith, K2, S Club 7 and Steps [goes without saying ha ha]

What are highs and lows of being in a band? The highs are hearing yourself on the radio, finding a web site written by a fan, reading a good review, any review. The lows, no money, dickheads telling what’s wrong your band and you should be more like [insert dickheads fav band].

Do you prefer recording in the studio or playing live shows? The studio anyday, I use the studio like a musical instrument, the sampler is king, gigs are great but it’s too easy to lose money putting them on.

Do you have any advice for bands just starting out? Rock ‘n’ roll is dead, long live rock ‘n’ roll.

Sum up your music in three words? Happy indie pop

*********************

Not a different kind of cider. They're red and there's a fair bit of (indie) rock in it. Red Ash is full of immortal lines that belong in everyone's book of phrases such "what fucking good times, we had no fucking good times, all we had bad and shit times". Red Ash approach paradise, rock and roll without powder burns.

Some bands play for money, some play for excitement, some because they want to be famous, some because it's the only way they can deal with their inner demons. But Red Ash and the Love Commandos play for sex, like it was an EEC stock pile, and today it could be your handout or surprise!

The band got their name "the Love Commandos" from the line "I'm a Love Commando and this is a raid" by Zodiac Mindwarp.

The style of the music is a kind of dancy-funky-indie guitar groove influence more southern sea side towns of England than the American Bronx. Shouts on the street are more likely to be "mines a 99" than "while your down there bitch."

Feel free to contact the band at 25 Records anytime for interviews/Band features/ gig info etc. At: 25 Records PO Box 3006, Poole, Dorset, BH12 2HU. Or Phone/Fax on (01202) 749244.

Red Ash and the Love Commando's recent offering can be heard on 'One two blow' which features one of their best songs (to date), 'Build' or as Ali G would of put it 'Drop the pregnant bitch'.

Check out the CD Coming Out. This CD would provide a good insight in to the world of Red Ash and the Love Commandos and their view of life and love.

They also feature on 'One two blow', 'Ooer missus' and 'Olive's army'.
