Red Ash

and the Love Commandos

Red Ash are fully named RED ASH AND THE LOVE COMMANDOS, a name they got from the line `I`m a love commando and this is a raid!` by Zodiac Mindwarp. They describe their music as a `kind of dancy-funky-indie guitar groove influence`. I have an other word for it.:MAGIC. Over here they may not be a well-known band but they have achieved to sell around 20.000 copies from their first two albums in Japan. Yup, we already know Japan is a strange country if it comes to music. Not only are shampoo the biggest band over there but they also have devoted fans to bands who are doing nothing over here... Well perhaps things will change for Red Ash cos their new CD `Coming Out` is out on 25 Records! Believe it or not, but it`s their first full CD which is available over here cos the two others (`One Woman` and `Empty Houses`) only got a Japanese release! About the line-up from the band Red Ash are rather vague. Their press-kit says:` There is no current permanent line-up from Red Ash and the Love Commandos, altough the latest line came in to being around easter 91, playing their first gig to a packed Mr. Smiths piano bar in Bournemouth. Being forced of spending months in dirty rehearsal rooms, musicians were replaced with a cheap sequencer and using a series of pretty girls to mime parts. The Love Commandos hit the streets as a five, six, seven or once an eleven piece.`

Their history began in 91 and they were spotted by the A&R-men from Rotate records during a gig at the academy in Boscombe. But from what I made up they weren`t so pleased with everything. But now they are on 25 Records and in my small opinion I think this is a label which does a lot for their bands. They`re promoted in different fanzines (a natural thing `THE ORIGINAL SIN` has to play its part either!) and you can see their heart is dedicated to the music. Red Ash will soon be huge!

Let`s end with their own words:`Some bands play for money, some play for excitement. Some because they want to be famous, some because it`s the only way they can deal with their inner demons but Red Ash play for sex, like it was an EU stock pile. And today it could be your handout or surprise!`. Make this band big! We promise to keep you informed.
