They describe their music as a `kind of dancy-funky-indie guitar groove influence`. I have an other word for it. MAGIC!

Red Ash

and the Love Commandos

A pure E number overdose of a band. Red Ash and the Love Commandos are the foxiest thing since Robin Hood [Walt Disney version].

Heather Steeley, postal interview December 1998

Members and their parts to play: Captain Ash plus an assortment of mates, and yes Mark from 25 Records was responsible for noises and samples on ’15 minutes’ as well as engineering on the USN, Phil Lewis and Red Vision Shores tracks.

Members taking part in interview: Captain Ash

  1. How did you all meet? The band is now more of a collective and I can’t remember how I meet everyone, it’s been over a long time.
  2. How long have you been together? Some of them have worked with me for years, but I’m planning to do some songs with some new people real soon.
  3. Has it been a long hard road to fame? It’s a very long road and your aims get moved with very tiny success
  4. Who is the main song writer? Captain Ash
  5. Are there any band squabbles? No
  6. What is the ‘scene’ like in your area? As I don’t play live, other musicians think that I’m not part of the ‘scene’, lots of gigs if you want them, just don’t expect to get paid!
  7. Who or what inspired you to become a musician? Sex drugs rock’n’roll, just the usual things!
  8. Who are your favourite bands of the moment? Kylie’s new album sounded cool, Lisa Germano, Patti Smith, K2 and Teletubies [goes without saying ha ha]
  9. What are highs and lows of being in a band? The highs are hearing yourself on the radio, finding a web site written by a fan, reading a good review, any review. The lows, no money, dickheads telling what’s wrong your band and you should be more like [insert dickheads fav band].
  10. Do you prefer recording in the studio or playing live shows? The studio anyday, I use the studio like a musical instrument, the sampler is king, gigs are great but it’s too easy to lose money putting them on.
  11. Do you have any advice for bands just starting out? Rock ‘n’ roll is dead, long live rock ‘n’ roll.
  12. Sum up your music in three words? Happy indie pop
