Stoker

What's the name of the band, and how did you come up with the name? Stoker . . . the band was named after the character that Noddy Holder played in the film ‘Slade in Flame. [Holder is a legend].

What are the individual member’s names and what do they play?

Dan Weller - Singer songwriter

Rob Tong - Guitars, bass, backing vocals.

Luke Cramp - Drums.

How did you meet? Luke and Dan were layabouts at school, and Rob was recruited later, but he soon proved his worth as a layabout.

How long have you been together? Just over a year, as a band, but we’ve known each other longer.

Where is the band based? Margate, on the Planet Thanet.

Who or what inspired you to become a musician? My gran dragged me [Dan] off to piano lessons when I was five, but Slade arrived to dominate my childhood.

What bands are you listening to at the moment? Cinerama, Stereolab, Super Furry Animals, Gene, but no one really excites me. I rarely listen to anything.

What are some of your favourite songs? Cum feel the noise - Slade How does it feel - Slade \Up the junction - Squeeze |Waterloo Sunset - The Kinks.

Do you prefer to play in the studio or live gigs? We only play in the studio - I don’t like actually enjoy playing at all!

Describe your sound. We rattle along.

Where can people come and see you play? They can’t!!! Though Rob busks in the high Street now ‘n again.

What do you like about being a part of 25Records? I like the fact they like us.

What are most of your songs about? (Love, partying, political, beer, etc.) Rejection and the futility of life . . . rather predictably, but unrecorded songs feature a variety of subjects.

Stoker

Give us an interesting story that happened either at a gig, or while writing or recording a song. ‘Clangers’ man Oliver Postgate was set to do an opening narrative on our debut e.p. but swiftly changed his mind when he heard the record.

Have you been in other bands? Luke and Rob played in the Persuaders who were a modish band who were signed to Detour Records. They released some stuff, and were a good live act. Especially on Bank Holidays in Margate.

Does anyone in the band have any strange or unusual habits or superstitions? The only unusual habit we all have is that we are gainfully employed and earn an honest crust. A habit we would like to break.
